Update (and Tease)

Anyone who knows me has heard me babble forever about a new book I’m writing. It’s about time I give some sort of update on where that stands.

The final working draft of the book was given to my editor on June 2. But on July 4th weekend, my editor dropped me an email wondering where the manuscript was. Due to old age and technological illiteracy, there it was sitting in my drafts waiting for me to hit send for more than a month.

With that user error out of the way, I can safely say that my new book is in the editing process. I’d love to give more information than that, but until I have had a chance to see the edits and incorporate them into the manuscript, I will refrain from making any announcements (including the book’s title) at this point.

So with that little update out of the way, I did want to drop a teaser to start building up some interest in what is coming.

I have been asked what the book will be about. A question I’ve not had a great answer for until now. I finally sat down yesterday and prepared an elevator pitch for it.

But before I give you that pitch, let me introduce you to the soundtrack (after all, that is what this website claims to be). Here is the soundtrack for the introduction and the first four chapters:

  • Grace Too – The Tragically Hip

  • Being Kind (Can Hurt Someone Sometimes) – REO Speedwagon

  • What Do You Want From Life – The Tubes

  • Name – Goo Goo Dolls

  • Arriving Somewhere But Not Here – Porcupine Tree

So without further ado, here is the elevator pitch for the upcoming book:

  • From her hospice bed on Leap Day 2020, an unfiltered bar owner explores the boundaries of grace with a straight-laced old friend, recounting the interwoven and uniquely messy lives of three people from their shared past.

I hope that piques some interest. Drop me a line and let me know your thoughts on the soundtrack and the premise. I can’t wait to give you more information about this. I truly feel that this book is the best thing that I have written!
